How to tell if your winter tyre is ok
In several aspects, the
process of checking whether your winter tyres are in good condition doesn’t
really differ much from the all-season tyres or any summer tyres.
Yet there are a few
differences that mainly lie in the fact that since you might only use them for
a few months, they can last a long time before they are replaced.
So, if you really want
your winter tyres to last for a long time, you should check them thoroughly
every year before putting them back on your axle and make sure that they will
do their job well.
If your tyres are not in perfect condition and have some signs of damage, then
you will need to replace them with new good quality tyres. This blog will help
you check your tyre condition and determine whether they are in good condition.
Tread Depths:-
Just like all season and summer tyres, the tread depth in winter tyres are very
crucial. Without a good tread, the tyre will not be capable of getting good
grip on the road surface, which gets worsen in the snowy and icy conditions.
Grip is one of the most
important features of any winter tyres, because the width of winter tyres
should never fall below 3 mm, and whilst the summer tyre would only need
minimum depth of 2 mm.
To measure the tread
depth you will need a cocktail stick or skewer, and place it on the grooves,
and then take measurement before marking from the pencil. Apollo tyres
have thick tread depth made from durable compound to prevent the uneven tread
wear.
Tread Bars:-
Some premium brands like Apollo tyre come
fitted with tread barks that make tread measuring even better. There are ridges
that are built inside the tyre to make the markings more noticeable as the
tyres begin to wear out.
When the tread bars and the tread reach at the same
level, this is an indicative that the tread has worn out and you need to
replace your tyres with a new set.
