The tyres of your vehicle are certainly important part and something where quality and performance shall never be compromised. For all the vehicle owners, it’s important to at least know the basis of reading a tyre. And so, we are here, to help you out at choosing the perfect set of tyres for your car.

The sidewalls of any tyre havesome inscriptions that hint at itsspecifications. There are few alphabets and numbers written on the sidewall which represent the tyre’s speed limit, size and its load bearing capacity. Reading and understanding these codes can be a great way of choosing the tyres your vehicle needs. You’ll be able to choose the perfect set according to your driving style, and demand of your vehicle. This little manual will teach you about what those letters and numbers mean.

Let’s assume that the sidewall of your Falken tyre says, 194/60/18 R 89V, you can read it as

194- Section Width

The initial set of the marking is the width of tyre in mm. This is the sidewall’s measurements which is marked from the surface where it is connected to the rim and to the part where tyre’s tread begin.

60- Aspect Ratio

this is the sidewall’s height which is expressed as tread width’s percentage. Here, the 60 Aspect ratio indicates that height of tyre is 60% of the tyre width.

18- Rim Diameter

The 3rd section indicated the size of rim. It is inside diameter of the tyre which is measured in inches.

R- Construction

The symbol R here denotes radial construction of tyre. Similarly, if there is B, it means cross ply construction type. But radial ones are more popular when compared with cross ply.

89- Load Index

it represents the maximum weight bearing limit a tyre can carry. The 89 here indicates that the load bearing capacity is 670 Kg. The conversion to kg is determined by a conversion table.

V- Speed rating

It indicated the maximum tyre speed.

Wrapping Up- Reading a tyre properly can help you determine whether the indicated measurement is what your vehicle needs or not. If you are looking for broader yet economic tyres, falken’s SINCERA can be a good option.
